What is this situation?

Social Proof Pressure — you open your phone before you even leave bed, and the day is already covered in visible proof: the packed restaurant everyone is posting from, the friend's launch getting flooded with comments, the job update with a thousand reactions, the group chat deciding what counts as worth doing before you've had time to think. You try to choose a place to eat, a show to watch, a person to date, a career move to make, and every option comes with numbers attached: stars, likes, follower counts, waitlists, sold-out badges, screenshots, 'everyone's going' messages. The pressure doesn't arrive as one loud order; it builds through small public cues, where approval is displayed first and your own choice has to squeeze in afterwards. If you move differently, someone asks why you're not coming, why you haven't posted, why you picked that when the reviews are bad, why you're not doing what seems to be working for everyone else. Even private decisions start to feel like they need witnesses, and your thumb hovers over the screen while your shoulders fold toward it, trying to read the room before you've entered it. By the end of the day, the feed, the chat, and the public scoreboard have turned ordinary judgment into a crowded stage, much like the rider on the Six of Wands, lifted into view while the surrounding wands make applause feel less like freedom than a condition of being seen.

Visible metrics, group-chat consensus, reviews, sold-out badges, and constant comparison are external cues built to steer attention. Social Proof Pressure has a shape: it makes approval look like evidence, then asks you to treat that evidence as instruction.
