The university still sends polished career updates and alumni appeals; recruiters filter by credentials, then offer pay that may not cover the path required to earn them; employers call internships a baseline and additional certificates a preference. The power to price the degree, define employability, and set the wage sits elsewhere, while you are left making the numbers meet. Some mornings begin with applications before a shift or class, some evenings end with screening tasks, and each rejection or low offer sends you back to the same spreadsheet. Your shoulders draw inward over the desk as you test every version of the equation: stay in the field, pivot, study again, or accept work that never required the credential. Why it's not you?
